Vintage Luxe 1940’s Choker Beaded Necklace
The Style The jewellery trends of the 1940’s saw the introduction of big and bold designs using bright coloured stones with lots of sparkle. This was to enhance women’s clothing of these war years where outfits had a tendency to be of a masculine nature. The feminine jewellery was worn to enhance the outfit with bangles worn over gloves and brooches worn on lapels and the shoulders of coats. As metal was scarce during the war many jewellery items of this era were produced in sterling silver rather that white metal and then plated with yellow gold a finish known as gold vermeil. The 40’s saw many glamourous Hollywood stars adorning the jewellery design of notable manufacturer such as Marcel Boucher and also Corocraft was well known for their Bakelite jewellery of this time. It was the late forties and early fifties that saw the wider introduction of the more commonly used Lucite in costume jewellery.
