Victorian Turquoise And Gold Serpent Chain Necklace
A striking serpent chain. Serpent jewellery such as this necklace was popular in the mid-Victorian era, and serpents appeared on rings, brooches, necklaces, and bracelets. This necklace features a long yellow gold chain set with square gold and turquoise beads spaced throughout. At the end of the chain is a wonderful serpent set with further turquoise stones and holding a heart shaped locket from its mouth. The combination of bright yellow gold and vivid turquoise was very popular in the Victorian era: the two complement each other wonderfully. Joanna Hardy says: The chain has a nice weight. Fun and different. The snake head and the turquoise beads are from other Victorian necklaces that have been later married together.
