Rose-Cut Diamond Button Ring

An English late 18th-century fluted rose cut diamond button ring, circa 1780. Ring size L.Vivienne Becker notes: “Louis XIV, the diamond-adoring Sun King, fastened his brocade coats with diamond buttons, ordering hundreds at a time. Then, in the 18th century, both men and women lavished their costumes with jewels, including diamond buttons. Here an 18th-century rose cut diamond button has been transformed, probably in the early 19th century, into a stunning ring.”
