A Pair Of Late Nineteenth Century Gold Drop Earrings
A delicate and intriguing pair of late Victorian earrings. These 19th century gold drop earrings each feature a spherical top suspending a gold chain entwined to the twisted reeded-form wirework body, terminating to two gold drops, all mounted in 18ct yellow gold with shepherd-hook fitting. The sculptural twisted gold wirework and Etruscan-inspired drops are surprisingly modern looking and elegant, making these earrings wonderfully wearable. Joanna Hardy says: “These earrings are unusual: I dont think Ive ever seen a design like this before. These are very architectural; today you would think that the use of wire was designed on a computer CAD programme, so its incredible to think they were made over a century ago.”
