A Pair of Gold, Amethyst & Onyx Earrings by Angela Cummings

A pair of gold, amethyst and onyx earrings by Angela Cummings. A bold vintage design crafted from 18k gold in teardrop design set at the centre with pear shape amethysts surrounded by onyx in a checkerboard design. Stamped Angela Cummings, copyright 1984, 18k. Josephine Odet says: “These quirky and bold vintage ear clips by Angela Cummings are showstoppers. The contrast between the gold, onyx and amethysts is clever and dramatic. Checkerboard designs are having a moment, gracing everything from homewear to nails. They also featured prominently in Emilia Wickstead’s Autumn Winter 2022 collection. Angela Cummings was born in Austria and as a child, moved with her family to the United States. On her return to Europe as a young adult, Cummings graduated as a gemmologist, goldsmith and designer. From 1968 to 1983, Cummings designed for Tiffany & Co and was one of a small number of designers who also signed her pieces alongside the brand. In 1984, she founded her own company with her husband Bruce Cummings, a gemmologist who had also been working at Tiffany€™s. This change boosted her creativity and design repertoire. Within a year, the designs were offered at Bergdorf Goodman. She is also represented at Bloomingdales, Neiman Marcus, Saks Fifth Avenue, and Shiseido, Japan. “
