Georges Lenfant, 18ct Gold Bracelet, 1960s
This fantastic, wide 18ct yellow gold bracelet is by one of the French Masters of precious gold jewellery, Georges Lenfant. Designed as articulated zig-zag links and highlighted by lines of gold bead word, this bracelet exemplifies Lenfants creative and experimental gold work which focussed on contrasting patterns and textures. The bracelet carries French gold marks and the George Lenfant makers mark. Georges Lenfant established his workshop in Paris in the early 20th Century, creating jewels under the Georges Lenfant house mark (registered in 1909) for the greatest maisons in Paris including Van Cleef & Arpels and Cartier. At only 11 years old, George’s son Jacques joined the workshop, going on to work under his father’s trademark name throughout his career. Like his father, Jacques was a skilled craftsman, designer and goldsmith and his textured and woven gold pieces from the 1950s, 60s and 70s are icons of their time. Joanna Hardy says: Georges Lenfant was one of the finest chain makers of the 1960s and 1970s, who made all the chains and bracelets for major jewellery houses such as Cartier, Boucheron, and Van Cleef & Arpels. Usually bracelets by G. Lenfant have the brands signature, but this one doesnt. It does not affect the price, because their jewels are so rare.
